The voltage and current effects of connecting solar PV panels in series and parallel
If you have different wattage solar panels, the same voltage but different amps, which is the better way to wire the solar panels together in your DIY solar system – series or parallel? In this video, we take two 24V solar panels, and wire them in parallel and in series into an MPPT charge controller to a deep cycle battery. Then we’ll, measure the output to determine which method is better for maximizing your solar power production. The results may surprise you.
When it comes to choosing a solar panel that will work best for your needs, there are lots of variables that you need to consider: monocrystalline vs polycrystalline, hard panels vs flexible panels, wiring the solar panels in series vs parallel or a combination of the two. This video will help bring clarity to these decisions you will need to make.

In this episode of DIY or Buy I will show you how I created a 100W solar panel by myself. Along the way you will learn how to wire up solar cells and how they are usually wired up in a commercial solar panel. At the end we will then evaluate whether the DIY version is cheaper to produce.
